Description:
Imagine sitting in the shade of an ancient olive tree, sipping ice-cold Vinho Verde and listening to birdsong - that is Casa Gaia.The villa nestles on the edge of Cerro do Leiria, a small typical Portuguese hamlet. This is a beautiful peaceful location, which is private, but not secluded. The small town of Santa Catarina is a few minutes drive away, and has a small morning market; two mini supermarkets; bars and restaurants; bank and ATM; post office etc. This is a small and charming town with traditional aspects of Portuguese life, such as the wells, communal washing places and olive oil press. Theres are 3 larger towns in the vicinity - Sao Bras (a hill top town with an interesting museum); Moncarapacho (which hosts a fascination gypsy market) and Tavira (renowned for its fish restaurants, castle and ferry to the off-shore island). The villa is ideally suited for exploring the 'real' Portugal, and a car is essential. There are many varied places to visit and local amenities e.g. Taviral Lawn Bowling Club (in the village); Colina Verde (the nearest golf course, a 10 minute drive away); Blue Flag beaches 15 - 25 minutes drive); Spain is 30 minutes along the motorway. All the facilities of the Algarve are within easy driving distance, so although the house is not in a tourist area, there is easy access to a whole range of places/activites such as Zoomarine where you can swim with dolphins, and Splish Splash - a water park which is great fun.The villa is extremely well equipped with 2 double and 2 twin bedrooms, sleeping 8. A cot and other equipment for a baby are available. A comfortable lounge with satellite TV, DVD player and a library of books, games and DVDs has patio doors which open onto the pool terrace. This is extremely private and not overlooked. The pool is 8 x 4 metres, and looks fabulous in the sunshine, with umbrella, sun beds and tables galore.The south terrace is a sun-trap - ideal for afternoon tea, while to the east is a totally enclosed and safe area - the shady side. This is the spot to swing gently in a hammock and de-stress completely.Inside the main door is a dining room with adjacent spacious kitchen. This has a gas and electric cooker, fridge/freezer, separate freezer, microwave, and all the usual electrical items, cutlery, crockery, and cookware.The villa is ideal for the extended family including grandma and grandpa, as everything is on one level; or for two families with children; or even a group of friends. |
