Although a car is not essential, one is recommended in order to fully explore and appreciate the area.
A 10-15 minute drive takes you to the thriving towns of Marbella with its wonderful old town, and Puerto Banus where you can visit the designer shops, sample the nightlife or just sit and admire the fabulous boats in the marina.
The white pueblo of Mijas is only 20 minutes away, Gibraltar, with its duty free shopping is just over one hours drive, and historical cities of Ronda, Seville and Granada are also popular day trips.
Close by is the picturesque port of Puerto Cabopino with its beautiful Marina, wide sandy beach, beach sports, sea fishing, and excellent restaurants and bars, where freshly caught seafood is the speciality.
Families with children are well catered for on the Costa del Sol.
Besides the sandy beaches, Fuengirola (10 mins drive) is home to an Aqua park and an excellent Zoo.
The Tivoli World Centre in Benalmadena is an ideal day out - with funfair rides for children of all ages, regular childrens musical entertainment, restaurants and bars, or you can take the spectacular cable car ride to the top of the mountain.
The new Selwo animal, marine, and adventure parks are located in Estepona and Benalmadena, and there is dolphin watching and sea fishing off the coast.
